The
wealthy merchant
Jan Hartman (1619-1668)
bought this prestigious
property on the
canal, known popularly
as ’Our Lord
in the Attic”.
Behind the characteristic
facade of this canal
house you will find
a largely original
17th-century home
and a complete hidden
church. Jan Hartman,
who was a catholic,
built this hidden
church 'in the attic'
during the Reformation,
when Catholics were
forbidden to hold
public services.
The unique atmosphere
in this museum astonishes
visitors every time.
A tour through the
narrow passageways,
stairways, period
rooms with splendid
works of art and
ornate furniture,
chaplains room,
box beds, authentic
kitchen will whish
you back in the
Golden Age.
