Exclusive form of cooperation between ARTTRA and the Geelvinck Hinloopen Huis

This city palace on the Herengracht was built for Albert Geelvinck and Sara Hinlopen in 1687. Here, you can become acquainted with the way of life of the Amsterdam regency families in the period between the Golden Age and the Industrial Revolution.
ARTTRA is pleased to be able to offer special guided tours for your Dutch guests or guests from abroad. Your art history guide - playing the role of the lady of the house – will tell you all about the former inhabitants; their way of life and music culture; the garden; the various styles and aspects of architecture, interior design and art objects.
She will take you to 'her' period rooms, including a Chinese room, and let you experience the prosperity and good taste of her family.
An added dimension is the stage for authentic recitals, using historical musical instruments. Exclusively for your group, we can organize a short concert and/or dinner. Thus, in this ambiance, you can relive the traditional music and atmosphere of such mansions; as a guest of the family!

Craftmanship is mastery, feeling for detail

In our world of mass production
, there is a growing need for a personal touch and traditionally crafted goods. The Jordaan district of Amsterdam that used to be quite notorious because of its wayward inhabitants, has succeeded in retaining its unique atmosphere and attention to craftsmanship. Stroll past speciality shops such as goldsmiths and silversmiths, fashion designers, a traditional chocolaterie, and a liqueur distillery. Pay a visit to Moooi, the studio of the famous Dutch product and interior designer Marcel Wanders, who drew international recognition for, among other works, his Knotted Chair made from reinforced rope and his Egg Vase made of porcelain.
Also visit the Pianola Museum and view its collection of automatic pianos and music rolls. The curator repairs all the pianos by hand! Take a trip on an authentic saloon boat along the picturesque canals and stop at a restaurant where you can enjoy a slow food lunch or dinner.
  Dutch East India Company Experience

After years of renovation works, the Scheepvaartmuseum (national maritime museum) is reopening on 2 October 2011!
The most striking of the large-scale modernizations is the spectacular roof over the inner courtyard in the shape of a compass rose, designed by Laurent Ney. ARTTRA will show you round the renovated museum, the collection and the Dutch East Company ship, De Amsterdam.
This will be followed by a Dutch East India Company boat trip along the canals, during which your guide will focus on the maritime history, and the riches and culture of Amsterdam. This is also a fantastic starting point for a Dutch East India Company walk. During the boat trip or walk, you can of course enjoy a snack and a drink. If you like, we can provide a festive dinner in a former 17th century shipping supplies store.
  Buying works of art?

Buying contemporary art is an exciting experience, regardless of your budget. However, it can also be difficult for those who do not know the ins and outs. What exactly are you looking for, and where is the best place to go? Of course, you may consider art mainly as a 'decoration' or as a status symbol, but that will ultimately lead to disappointment. That would be a pity, because purchasing a work of art should be a personal adventure and possessing such a work should enhance your life!
For the dedicated art collector, owning a work of art could also form an interesting long-term investment. Finding the right art work not only requires intuition, curiosity and attention, but knowledge is also indispensible.
ARTTRA, an organization dedicated to the promotion of art and culture, will be pleased to be of service to you. For more information, contact Mrs M.H.J. Schutte on +31 (0)20-6259303.
