North Holland: trade and craftmanship
in the 17th century
This
program will show participants
the cultural riches of 17th
century North-Holland. We will
start with a visit to The Zaanse
Schans, with windmills, ancient
wooden houses, shops and a shipyard.
After having had lunch in the
trading-town of Hoorn we will
go for a city walk along merchants'
houses on the harbour front,
the Main Tower, warehouses and
canals. In the weigh house you
will admire a V.O.C. hall, one
of the rooms of the admiralty,
portraits of Michiel de Ruyter,
chinaware and several rooms
in the style of the 17th century.
You will visit a 17th century
water mill, still in working
order, after having taken a
beautiful route to get there.
Dinner in the evening will be
enjoyed in an authentic naval
shop.
extra: visit to the
oldest and world largest vegetable
auction, based in a Jugendstil-building,
including a boat tour
North
Holland: colours and
flowerbulbs
In
spring foreign guests mostly
like to visit the bulb fields
in full bloom. You may like
to admire rare and ancient species
of tulips, and afterwards try
tasting some smoked eel from
the Westeinder lakes at a former
refuge shelter. Via a beautiful
route along the bulb fields
you will reach the picturesque
artists' village of Bergen,
where you can admire a collection
of works of art by members of
the Bergen artists' movement
like Leo van Gestel and Charley
Toorop. After a short walk along
the beach of Bergen on Sea you
may conclude the day with a
dinner in the old trading town
of Hoorn, or the cheese town
of Alkmaar.
extra: a visit to the
marine aquarium with tropical
fish and shellfish from the
oceans of the world
North
Holland: sailing
trip combined with cultural
program
ARTTRA
offers your guests a combination
of sports and civilization.
First a visit to the outdoor
museum of Enkhuizen. A guided
tour around the attractive and
lively town on the former Zuiderzee,
with original cobblestones,
courtyards and historical gardens,
will provide the visitor with
a realistic image of the fishermen's
lifestyle as it used to be around
the IJsselmeer.
Afterwards an original "tjalk"
(historical sailing ship) will
be waiting for you. A seafood
lunch will be served aboard
the sailing ship. To conclude
this day dinner may be enjoyed
at a former pepper warehouse
or at an old Dutch restaurant
on the waterfront.
extra: an hour's beautiful
cycling tour from Enkhuizen
along the Omringdijk. Prices
depending on your wishes and
the number of participants.
