What better
place to discover
the secrets of Rembrandt
than in the place
he created some of
his greatest works?
Rembrandt Harmensz
van Rijn and his wife
Saskia lived here
from 1639 to 1658,
during his wealthy
period.
The house is in the
heart of the old Jewish
quarter, where Rembrandt
had the opportunity
to use his fellow
citesins as models,
most notably when
executing biblical
themes.
The building houses
an almost complete
overview of Rembrandt’s
graphic work of 260
of the 290 etchings.
Originally the ground
floor provided living
accommodation, the
first floor was his
studio and his pupils
used the attic. The
rooms have been refurnished
with works of art,
furniture and other
objects from Rembrandt’s
time to reconstruct
the painter’s
everyday life, his
living quarters, amazing
art collection and
his atelier where
you can still admire
the light.
In special exhibitions
at the extension,
the museum focuses
on artists who have
been inspired by Rembrandt’s
art both past and
present.
